SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS
There is a broad range of experience making me a versatile asset in more than one area (see resume) At least 20 years of experience involves doing computer-related software, hardware and electronics instrumentation support. There is experience writing scientific documentation and giving Health and safety training to personnel on my area of expertise. I have supported hardware and software on mini and microcomputer platforms, including Windows; DEC VAX/VMS; DEC 10; Unix/Linux and others Microsoft SQL server 2005 and compact SQL server. I have electronics and instrumentation education and experience; much of which relates directly to computers. My knowledge of electronics integrates well with my computer experience. Because of my bottom to top knowledge of how things work together, I can provide support at the engineer level, with a broader scope of knowledge to draw on in order to examine the entire system, rather than just the narrower view of software only. This level of support allows quicker response time, a shorter learning curve and increased ability to find solutions to real issues.

EXPERIENCE:

v Food services requested a solution to automate data transfer of information to and from their Linux servers at each school. They had a Linux server hosting School Link technologies Point of sale software. RS-232 terminals connected to the server, were used by the cafeteria workers to process student lunches. Data files were then transferred on floppy disks (80 schools per day) sent via currier, between the Adams building, to be processed by hand.
I interviewed with everyone involved in the process, including food services workers at the schools; data processors at the central office; Information systems people to provide updated student information from the IBM mainframe and school link technologies (POS software provider).
I implemented an entire solution for this. I obtained a linux server and found a network card that would work, without recompiling the operating system and made changes to give access to the network. I then wrote a Linux shell script program to automate the changes to the Linux OS, so that technicians making the upgrades would not have to run tedious Linux commands by hand. I supervised technicians to install the new hardware and run my script to give each of the 80 linux servers access to the network. Next I specified and built a Windows server running FTP services for windows which could interface data transfer between Linux and the windows environment. The School Link Technologies CAFS software already had hooks to run commands at program start and program end. I wrote Linux script programs to FTP get and put transfer new student information data from the central CAFS server in the morning and then transfer end of day financial data from the central CAFS server in the main office. The data was transferred automatically, alleviating the cafeteria manger from the data transfer processing duties.
v After automation of the CAFS system was complete, I provide support to food services to resolve day to day technical issues with the entire system.
v In 2006 Food services decided to upgrade to a new windows based POS system which used a server at each school connected to workstation at the food serving lines, equipped with touch screen terminals. I specified and built a new Windows 2003 server be implemented for this according to School Link Technologies specifications. I specified that windows 2003 server be used as the intermediary server at 90 schools, connected to the line server workstations. I built a model of a school server and lines server computer and then made a drive image of each with Norton Ghost software to allow technicians to install a working OS as needed for each type of computer. This also allowed them to replace an OS, in cases where a solution was difficult to find. We began a transition from the Linux system to the windows system based on food services time frame. I then provided support for this system after installation was complete.
v I engineered a solution request from Food Services to make the Point of sale system independent of LAN and WAN failure allowing the POS system to continue to process students for breakfast and lunch if there was a LAN failure and then continue with LAN operations after potential LAN failure was resolved. This allowed Food Services to avoid processing student POS transactions by hand and then having to enter the data by hand.
v Support Parentlink servers for hardware and software, in OS/2 environment at LCSD schools, from 2002 until the new Parentlink server was brought on line. This version of parentlink was able to do call outs to parents for grades and attendance; allow parents to receive grade and attendance via phone and internet and also act as a PBX telephone system, including voicemail. Also did excellent hardware and software support. I was asked to take over this system, when the person in that position, left unexpectedly. I had to learn OS/2 and Parentlink, by work experience while doing the job.
v Engineered AVG antivirus solution for the entire district with avg servers at each school. After installation, I provided support for the entire district , from a central location. I administered antivirus and support for the entire diswtrict (later switched to Symantec) and WebRoot anti-spyware software to control malware for the entire district, from a central location for Windows workstations on the LAN.
v Administered Microsoft SQL server database for AVG, Symantec and Webroot to track running aspects, make modifications and for reporting..

v Administered uranium enrichment Cascade ADP (Modcomp based) computer network used to detect UF6 (uranium hexafluoride) gas leaks, equipment vibration and temperature variances in an industrial production environment. Provided computer support to process operators to help them control and monitor the uranium enrichment cascade system.
v Repaired and calibrated electronic transducers; scanning components and Modcomp computers, used in the Uranium enrichment cascade data collection network, to the component level.
